Mike Pyle’s Modern Haven: A Space Built to Be Lived In
When you’ve built a career designing outdoor escapes that blend beauty with purpose, it’s only natural that your own home should embody the same standard. For Mike Pyle—HGTV’s Inside Out co-host and founder of Mike Pyle Design—creating a cohesive, high-functioning indoor-outdoor experience was at the core of his recent remodel. The result? A masterclass in contrast, flow, and smart material choices.
A Backyard Designed to Perform—and Impress
In Southern California, the backyard is more than a bonus space—it’s an extension of everyday living. Mike’s outdoor kitchen captures this philosophy completely. Nestled in the heart of his lush Dana Point property, the layout follows a U-shaped configuration—a design that supports seamless movement, encourages gathering, and frames the space with purpose. Every angle is intentional. Every surface earns its place.
“I needed space to prep, cook, entertain, and also set out food,” Mike says. “[The porcelain countertop] ties in with my outdoor kitchen seamlessly, complements my appliances, and really makes a statement in my backyard space.”
Mike chose Panoramic Porcelain Surfaces in Statuario with a matte finish, a bold choice that reflects his signature aesthetic. The crisp white surface is threaded with elegant gray veining, giving it the upscale look of marble with the low-maintenance resilience needed for real outdoor living. Resistant to heat, UV rays, and temperature swings, it delivers performance without compromise.
“I really wanted something that was aesthetically pleasing, easy to clean, and can stand the test of time,” Mike adds.
This isn’t just design—it’s lifestyle architecture, and these large-format slabs deliver both polish and practicality with striking visual impact.
A Kitchen That Tells a Story of Contrast and Cohesion
From the outdoor grill to the heart of the home, Mike’s indoor kitchen continues the story of thoughtful balance and bold expression. Here, he pairs warm natural wood cabinetry and floating shelves with marble look ONE Quartz countertop in Valor White to create a soft, elevated palette. But what truly sets the space apart is the dramatic application: the quartz doesn’t stop at the counters—it climbs the full height of the wall, framing open shelving and soaring to the ceiling in a seamless sweep of stone.
“When it came to designing and remodeling our kitchen, we really wanted to make a statement,” Mike shares. “So we went with the quartz Valor White on the countertops against the walls, as well as running it all the way up to the ceiling to create that elevated look.”
The full-height installation doesn’t just offer visual impact—it brings effortless maintenance, too. The nonporous surface resists stains and wipes clean with ease, making it as functional as it is refined.
To ground the light, airy atmosphere, Mike introduced a gray concrete look quartz on the island, giving the space depth and a strong visual anchor.
“I really wanted to do something different and unique for the island,” he says, “to create some contrast and an elevated look as well in the kitchen.”
Design Backed by Expertise
For a designer known for crafting luxurious, livable spaces, the materials had to match the vision. From bold porcelain to fashion-forward quartz, every element in Mike’s remodel was chosen for its ability to deliver lasting beauty and real-world durability.
“Working with the team on my home has been a seamless process from start to finish.”
Whether you're crafting an outdoor kitchen built to impress or creating a dramatic interior space that flows with ease, Mike Pyle proves that great design begins with the right surfaces—and bold, lasting results follow.
