Your Guide to a Coastal Kitchen: Expert Tips for a Stunning Renovation

According to a recent study, over 91 percent of homeowners upgraded their countertops during renovations. What specific design elements of natural quartzite slab do you find most appealing?

Quartzite is such a stunning and practical choice! I love its durability—especially in a home where entertaining and cooking happen frequently. Its natural movement brings so much character and depth, making each slab unique yet compatible. Plus, it has that luxurious look with better resistance to heat and stains, which is perfect for a high-traffic kitchen

With your renovated kitchen featuring neutral hues of cream and brown, how does the light-colored flooring contribute to the overall coastal aesthetic?

The warm, sandy tones of the flooring bring such an organic, beachy feel to the space. It keeps the kitchen feeling light and airy, which is so important in coastal design. Plus, the subtle grain in the wood look tile adds texture without overpowering the other design elements. It’s a perfect base that ties everything together.

Experts say that backsplashes are the second most popular feature upgraded during renovations, following countertops. What inspired you to choose natural quartzite for your kitchen, and how does this choice enhance your overall interior design?

I love the seamless, elevated look of using the same quartzite for both my countertops and backsplash. It creates a beautiful, continuous flow that makes the kitchen feel larger and cohesive. The natural movement in the stone becomes a statement piece, almost like artwork, without feeling too busy. Plus, it’s incredibly practical—having a full-height quartzite backsplash means fewer grout lines to clean, which is always a win!

It seems like open-concept kitchens are gaining popularity again. What are the pros and cons of having an open kitchen design?

I love an open kitchen because it keeps the energy flowing and makes entertaining so much easier. It allows for more natural light and makes the space feel larger and more inviting. The biggest challenge can be keeping things tidy since everything is on display, but I’ve found that having plenty of concealed storage helps keep the space looking polished.
