Conserving Solid Materials

To help protect nature’s grand design, the Daltile Greenworks program has included changes in our processes as well as our products. Daltile is currently preventing over 200 million pounds of solid wastes from ending up in landfills.

This is being done in a variety of ways such as utilizing by-products that other companies had previously discarded, reusing our own manufacturing waste and recycling as many solid materials as possible that cannot be reused internally.

Manufacturing Process

A major component of our floor tile products is a by-product from a manufacturing process that makes products for the roofing industry, which was formerly disposed of as waste. This means Daltile has helped prevent an average of over 175 million pounds per year from ending up in our nation’s landfills.

Corporate Office

In total, Daltile’s Corporate office has recycled over 340 tons of cardboard and office paper since 2003. Secure recycling is accomplished by confidential shredding of all paper products. All archived records that are eligible are being shredded and recycled.

Pre-Consumer Recycled Content

More than 98% of Daltile's manufactured products contain pre-consumer (post-industrial) recycled materials. This minimizes the use of virgin raw materials to the greatest extent possible.

State Reuse Program

Over 48 million pounds of material that cannot be used to make new tile products was recycled in state-approved beneficial reuse programs, including:

  • Land reclamation
  • Roadbed base material
  • Raw material for brick and cement manufacturing
